Chowder Bowl in Newport, Oregon

After a full day exploring Newport beaches and shops; finding the right place to eat is important to finish the day happy. The Chowder Bowl in Newport, Oregon doesn't disappoint. I'm not compensated for this review. The photos and opinions are my own.

The Chowder Bowl, located  at 728 NW Beach Drive in Nye Beach, has been open since 1980. Parking is tricky some hours but they are famous for their clam chowder and worth finding a spot. You can buy the chowder to go and pick it up at some Oregon Costco warehouses as well. The chowder is served with most meals and comes with a pat of butter on top. I like it but if you prefer not to have butter, be sure to tell them to leave it off. You can get the chowder in a bread bowl that is so big, you can share.

It's a nice small restaurant that gets very busy but even so, the service is quick and food hot. You can make reservations or order to go.

Their menu has so many good choices that makes it so hard to decide. One of my favorite dishes is the Fish Tacos made with lightly breaded Pacific True Cod, diced tomatoes, cabbage, tomatoes, melted cheese and your choice of either mango or pico de gallo salsa. Choose from corn or flour tortillas and enjoy a cup of clam chowder (included) for a filling meal.

My second choice is the Chipotle Shrimp Tacos (yes, I love tacos), made with large shrimp sautéed in chipotle seasoning, avocado, cabbage, homemade pico de gallo or mango salsa, melted cheese and your choice of flour or corn tortillas.

If you are not a seafood type person, they have a variety of salads, burgers, and sandwiches. The Cob Salad is served in a huge bowl with salad greens, grilled chicken, avocado, bacon, tomato, chopped eggs and bleu cheese. It also comes with a cup of chowder.

There is also a child's menu, appetizers, chili, different wines, draft beers, desserts and the regular assortments of drinks.

Check out their Website for hours and days of operation.

  1. This is one of my favorite places in Newport, Oregon! I love their fish and chips. The chili in a bread bowl is also fantastic. I also recommend the shrimp and chips. My kids enjoy their burgers and club sandwiches. You can choose to dine indoors or out on the patio (pet friendly!). I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! Thank you for sharing the review and photos! I should try a salad sometime.
